Waipio Valley, the famous "Valley of the Kings", is Hawaii's largest valley at one mile long and six miles wide. Historically, Waipio was an agricultural region of remarkable abundance, home at one time to thousands of Hawaiians and often the meeting place for chiefs when important decisions were to be made. Now sparsely populated, primarily by taro farmers, Waipio Valley is a rainforest of steep walls etched by waterfalls and lush tropical foliage aburst in color, ending at an impressive mile-long black sand beach.
